Donovan McNabb will go down as an all-time great quarterback and borderline hall of famer; however no one will ever look at him as the poster boy for having a back bone. Per ESPN.com Donovan sent text messages on Friday saying he was happy he went unclaimed.

Who’s happy to get fired and not get hired by teams who could use his services? If you look at his stats he wasn’t great, but by no means was he terrible either. He completed 60% of his passes thus far and with slightly over a thousand passing yards racked up, would’ve had a good shot to hit the three thousand yard mark.

Now as Robert Littal will point out, Donovan will kill his share of gophers, nonetheless he was decent this year and to be happy to be unemployed may be the sign that he doesn’t have the passion to put in the work anymore. I understand his thought process of being unclaimed, which would then give him the option to sign with whoever he wanted to. However it’s not like the teams that were considering him were bums, the Texans and Bears are in the middle of a playoff run and if he could lead them to the promise land it would only do wonders for him. The Cowboys could’ve gave him a roster spot and we know Tony Romo is one bad play away from being thought of as a bum and has never had a legitimate backup to push him to be great.

We’ve always seen Donovan be the utmost professional, always say and do the right thing. Although it seems as he’s gotten older he lost his knack to be the professional, or at least be portrayed that way. I mean, who goes on national TV after being let go with a ‘Make it rain’ shirt on expecting to get a job. Furthermore if you’re going to go with the ‘make it rain’ shirt, you must have a Slick Rick type chain to compliment, not that weak rope he had on.

E.J. and Erin Henderson Have Donation to High School Rejected

When a donor makes a donation to a hospital it’s usually customary that they have a hallway, wing even a building named after them. Apparently not in Maryland; Brothers E.J and Erin Henderson current Minnesota Vikings intended to donate $20,000 to help their alma mater Aberdeen High School with repairs to the schools’ field and scoreboard. In return the Henderson’s wanted to have their family name on the new scoreboard.

However, as part of Maryland law, no family name can be placed upon public school property.

School spokeswoman Teri Kranefeld wrote in a statement:

“The Harford County Board of Education rejected the scoreboard installation proposal based on the current advertising policy parameters.”

This law was brought to light when the local board of education decided not to name the football field after fallen soldier Ryan Adle who was killed in Iraq and former captain of the Aberdeen football team.

The Henderson brothers are now taking their money back. How foul is that? It’s not as if people wouldn’t have known they donated the money. If the Henderson’s wanted to do something nice do the act and don’t ask for the money back. Performing nice deeds aren’t supposed to have conditions, so don’t get mad when they don’t bow to your request. That just makes you look petty and as if you didn’t want to help in the first place.

McNabb & His Soup Go to the Bench

Remember back when Donovan McNabb had braids, no wide receivers, consistently going to the playoffs and doing those Campbell soup commercials? Well that Donovan is gone, dead, buried to never be seen again. And there’s no shame in his career coming to an end, he’s 34 going into his 14th season, so his skills diminishing is to be expected. What I didn’t expect is for him to have such a nonchalant attitude towards it though. I’m not saying I want him to go Brett Favre and never let the game go, but show more than the even keel demeanor when the team that picked you to replace Favre just gave you job to a rookie. When will Donovan ever just look to the camera and say ‘this is some bulls&$t and I deserve a chance to work through this’? He always takes the cool non defensive approach as if he never has to fight for anything. Where’s the drive, the passion? I don’t doubt that he has these things so much that I don’t understand why he doesn’t come out and show it and be a little more demonstrative. Especially this season when his benching can be argued that he’s not the reason the team is losing. The defense continues to give up leads and for some reason when they get these leads they decide not to run the ball with arguably the best running back in the league. However, since they’re going to the rookie Christian Ponder it wouldn’t make much sense to go back to McNabb, might as well ride out the growing pains with Ponder and start the grooming process to see if you’ve found your qb of the future. Nevertheless, if the rest of the team plays the same as they have been for the first six weeks the outcomes of their future games may be no different.
