With so much talk about loyalty in sports and players not staying on one team for their entire career nothing is ever said for when teams ship out players like cargo across the pacific.

Well, Jim Thome who signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in the off season, was traded to the Baltimore Orioles according to an ESPN report. The Phillies acquire right-hander Kyle Simon and catcher Gabriel Lino, while the Orioles hope to obtain a needed jolt to their offense that has been lacking as of late.

Jim Thome who is one who claims he is all about loyalty, was traded from the team he thought he’d end his career with, kind of fitting for a guy who left his initial team the Cleveland Indians after he said he was ‘loyal’ to them.

Assessing how the trade will help the Orioles; he should add a needed power threat, and considering Camden Yards is a hitter friendly park I can see why the Orioles were intrigued. Thome also being a great locker room guy can provide some stability to the locker room and be a big brother type that the younger guys in the locker room can look to. I don’t think it will put them over the top to win the division, however they should have a good shot at the wildcard spot.

Plenty of people have a bucket list of things they want to accomplish and football players are no different. Jason Babin defensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles tells the Philadelphia Inquirer that he wants to travel to Spain and run with the bulls. To the question of why would one want to run with the bulls Babin had this to say;

“It’s kind of a rite of passage it’s a stamp. I guess in my brain I have a figurative ‘man card’ that’s got certain punches that need to be punched out.”

Babin also has answers to those who say it’s dangerous and he shouldn’t risk potential injury;

“Everyone thinks it’s dangerous and hazardous, but it’s not, if done correctly and soberly. Bulls can’t turn the corner on cobblestone, so as long as you’re on the inside you’re going to be all right, I broke the tape down like game film.”

Now I’ve never wanted to run with the bulls, to damn dangerous in my opinion, however that’s what makes athletes different. Their thought process is not the same, and in some areas they’re more fearless, and that’s what allows them to be more successful in their field. So if he wants to do it then go ahead more power to ya. Hopefully he doesn’t get injured and if he’s studied tape of it like he would do Tony Romo then he should be fine. I mean he’s an eagle so I’m sure if he gets in trouble he can just fly away.

Nnamdi to the Eagles

Nnamdi Asomugha has signed a 5 year $60 million contract with the Eagles. Teaming him up with Asante Samuel, and Dominique Rodgers- Cromartie, gives them one of the coldest secondaries in the league. If the Eagles keep all three, their nickel coverage would be stacked, add a guy specializing in stopping the run and they have a good chance at being nearly unbeatable. Barring Mike Vick getting hurt during the preseason, they may be my early superbowl pick.

In 2007 Michael Vick lost it all, home, sponsors and his freedom. But it has been said many timesthat America is a place of redemption  and second chances. Well Vick is starting to feel some of that love right now as Nike has re-signed him to an endorsement deal. This is great for him. For all the criticism and negativity he’s faced the last two years, I’m glad to see that he’s starting to put his life and career back together. And if a huge company like Nike is willing to give Vick another chance, why should we not at least give him the chance to earn our trust back? I know some will never forgive Vick for what he did, but I’m glad to see that some are still willing to give people a second chance. Since Vick has been home he’s done just about everything he could to right the wrongs of his past and now its looking like he’s slowly rebuilding some of the bridges he once burned. Maybe his past wont bite him so hard after all.
